I discovered this on the wine list at the Atlanta Grill in October, 2005.  After having the '95 a few years prior, and with a '99 and 2000 in the rack I was thrilled to find this one at a relatively reasonable price.  I ordered it with a bit of trepidation, afraid of being disappointed.  I couldn't have been any more wrong.  Even at 26 years old it had excellent fruit and full body.  It was so good I didn't hesitate to order a second bottle, which should tell you quite a bit.

Notes:

Lots of fruit; mature and full-bodied.  Long, smooth finish with just a hint of tannins.  Perhaps the most noteworthy California wine I've ever had the pleasure to drink.  Like the 1995, it is as if this wine had been polished, everything was smooth and rounded.  9/10
